DukesHill Artisan Foods Triumph At 2024 Great Taste Awards

At DukesHill, considerable time and effort goes into carefully refining our range of artisan foods. We hold ourselves, our farmers and our producers to the highest standards and use time-honoured techniques to ensure that every bite of DukesHill food leaves you feeling delighted and wowed. This is why we are delighted that four of our fine DukesHill products have been recognised at this year’s coveted Great Taste Awards. 

Set up in the early 1990s by the Guild of Fine Food, the Great Taste Awards are the world’s largest food and drink accreditation scheme. Over 500 experts come together to blind-taste the entrants and select which delicious foods are truly the greatest. The winners are given a 1-, 2-, or 3-star rating and it’s reported that over 12,500 entries compete for the top prizes each year. Winning is certainly no easy feat and we are incredibly particularly proud that our artisan foods have been recognised with star ratings from the judges this year.

DukesHill Unsmoked Dry Cured Streaky Bacon

We’ve long been proud of our unique, Unsmoked Dry Cured Streaky Bacon, with customers even commenting that it is the “best bacon ever!”. This sentiment has now been echoed by this year’s Great Taste Awards and our British outdoor-bred streaky bacon has been awarded a fantastic 2 stars.

Described by the judges as “scrumptious bacon”, our unsmoked streaky bacon is the result of years of refinement and time-honoured traditional curing techniques. Each rasher is hand-cured using salt and brown sugar to enhance the natural flavours and produce thick and colourful bacon that is irresistibly crisp and clean. The resulting and now award-winning streaky bacon is the perfect way to create a sarnie - we’re delighted that the judges seemed to think so too!

DukesHill Old-Fashioned Rind-On Middle Bacon

Uniquely fusing the best of both worlds, our Old-Fashioned Rind-On Middle Bacon was designed to be devoured. It’s everything bacon should be: thick, salty, tasty and perfect for starting the day on the right foot. The judges agreed and the following comment really made us smile:

“...a single rasher would more than satisfy the senses at breakfast.”

Fortunately, you don’t have to limit your enjoyment of our 2-star Great Taste Award-winning middle bacon to one rasher as each pack contains at least 5 rashers. Each promises a beautiful balance of traditional bacon flavour and brown sugar sweetness, with an all-round appealing appearance and premium thick cut fit for even the most selective taste buds.

DukesHill Unsmoked Dry Cured Back Bacon

When evolving our dry curing process, we couldn’t stop at streaky goodness. That’s why DukesHill Unsmoked Dry Cured Back Bacon is also hand-crafted with our time-honoured dry-curing techniques and the resulting unsmoked bacon rashers are a fine example of exactly how bacon should be.

Awarded a 1-star Great Taste Award, our unsmoked back bacon cooks beautifully with no excess water or white goo. This is thanks to the time and care taken to allow the bacon to mature, with several days allocated to the curing process to strip the bacon of moisture. The judges highlighted just how nicely each rasher cooked as a result of this careful process, resulting in bacon that “coloured beautifully” and had a “crisp texture” - just like we intended.

Extra Meaty Gluten Free Pork Sausages

Our brilliant British bacon is just one example of our pork expertise; at DukesHill, we’re also proud to produce some of the finest sausages we’ve ever tasted. As Royal Warrant Holders, it has always been important to us to stay aligned with traditional butchery techniques but add new flavours and dimensions when creating our range of pork sausages. Our Extra Meaty Gluten Free Pork Sausages are a prime example of this commitment, combining the finest cuts of British outdoor-bred pork with our own special blend of seasonings. 

We are delighted that the judges enjoyed this balance and awarded our Extra Meaty Gluten Free Pork Sausages 2 stars. Described as a “juicy sausage with a satisfying bite”, this award is a testament to the versatility of the flavours of this sausage and proof that it is possible to create a sausage everybody can enjoy with the right levels of care and attention.
